How to use Add PDF Page Numbers

What this tool helps you do

Visible page numbers help readers refer to a particular sheet in a document. This tool adds labels to the page content; it does not change the PDF reader’s internal page labels.

When it is useful

  • Numbering a report before sharing
  • Starting a section at page 1
  • Adding references to a scanned packet

A practical example

For pages 2–4 with starting number 1, those pages receive labels 1, 2 and 3; the first page stays unchanged. With starting number 5 and the last-number format, labels are 5 / 7, 6 / 7 and 7 / 7.

Limitations and common mistakes

Numbers are added over existing content, so choose an empty margin. Digital signatures are not preserved. Check rotated pages, forms, links and bookmarks in the result.

How to use Add PDF Page Numbers

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Select a position, font size, starting number and label format.
  3. Leave the page range blank for all pages, or enter a range such as 2-4.
  4. Add the labels, preview the result and download.

Inputs and processing

One unencrypted PDF, up to 25MB and 40 pages. Uploaded for processing. Selected pages are numbered consecutively in document order. The last-number format shows the final assigned number, not the total number of source pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the cover?

Yes. Enter 2 followed by the last page, for example 2-10, and choose the starting number you want.

Can I remove existing numbers?

No. This adds new labels; it does not erase text already in the PDF.
